2026: Important Tax Dates to Remember

January 15, 2026:

Final estimated tax payment for the 2025 tax year. This applies mainly to self-employed individuals, investors, and others with incomes not subject to withholding.

February 2, 2026:

Deadline for employers to issue Forms W-2 and for businesses to provide most Forms 1099, including 1099-NEC, to recipients.

April 1, 2026:

Deadline to take your first Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you turned age 73 during 2025.

April 15, 2026:

A major tax deadline with several key requirements:

1) File your 2025 federal income tax return (Form 1040) and pay any balance due

2) Make IRA and HSA contributions for the 2025 tax year

3) Submit the first estimated tax payment for 2026

4) File Form 4868 to request an automatic six-month extension to file (this extends filing only, not payment)

5) Last day to file a 2022 return and still claim a refund 

June 15, 2026:

Second estimated tax payment due for the 2026 tax year. This is also the standard filing deadline for U.S. citizens and residents living abroad.

September 15, 2026:

Third estimated tax payment due for the 2026 tax year.

October 15, 2026:

Final deadline to file your 2025 tax return if an extension was filed by April 15.

Important Tax Dates for Businesses

March 16, 2026:

Deadline to file tax returns for calendar-year Partnerships (Form 1065) and S Corporations (Form 1120-S), or the 15th day of the third month after the fiscal year ends.

April 15, 2026:

Deadline for C Corporations (Form 1120) and sole proprietors filing with their individual return (Form 1040, Schedule C).

September 15, 2026:

Extended filing deadline for calendar-year Partnerships and S Corporations.

October 15, 2026:

Extended filing deadline for calendar-year C Corporations.
